MLC Shehnaz Ganai called on President Pranab Mukherji at Rashtrapati Bhawan and presented him a memorandum regarding the development of border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Ganai, in her memorandum, said families divided due to the partition of the state are in the two districts. The memorandum added that while cross-LoC trade from Poonch has given positive results, two more points -- Nowshera-Changar in Rajouri district and Sagra-Tatta Pani in Poonch district -- be opened for trade and movement of divided families.
She added that the government should start work on the four-laning of Mughal road -- which connects Kashmir to Poonch in the Jammu region -- as it will bring more development to these two districts.
The MLC in her memorandum also appealed to the President to connect these two districts with the rail link and also upgrade the Jammu-Poonch road.
She added that people of these two districts have always remained and supported nationalistic forces, despite many provocations, but there is huge unemployment. The memorandum said army and para-military forces should start a special recruitment drive in these districts.
It added that local youth should be given preference in various activities aimed at providing logistical support to the armed forces like transportation, supply of ration, vegetables/fruits and awarding small civil contracts so as to develop stake of local population in deployment of army in the region.
