MLI beat Tahir training in final

MARATHA LIGHT Infantry Regimental Centre emerged the winner of the Shankar Lakshman hockey tournament played at the Honorary Captain Shankar Lakshman stadium (erstwhile called garrison ground). In the final, they defeated Tahir Hockey training centre 1-0. 

Nine teams participated in the tourney, which was held on a league basis. The concluding ceremony of the tournament was held with military pomp and fanfare.

The Brigadier General Staff of Infantry School Brig V S Gulia was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony while Shanti Bai wife of Padmashri Late Shankar Lakshman and Assistant General Manager V Shivshankaran were the special guests of the programme.

A large number of senior military officers and civilian dignitaries were also present including the station commander Brig P K Kaushik.

Brig Gulia gave the winners trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 to MLI regimental centre while V Shivshankaran and Shanti Bai presented the runners-up trophy and a cash prize of Rs 10,000 to the captain of Tahir Hockey Training centre.

The pipe band of the 26 Maratha Light Infantry mesmerized everybody with an enthralling display of martial music and various formations. At the end, prizes were distributed and the glittering chief of the army staff silver trophy.
