Irate passengers attacked a ticket examiner (TTE) alleging that he had pushed a ticketless youth from the train leading to his death.
The TTE, B B Sharma, was admitted to a railway hospital where his condition was stated to be serious, A Srivastava, Divisional Railway Manager-Vadodara, said.
Shrivastava said he had formed a three-member "fact finding team" to inquire into the incident and it was likely to submit a report by tomorrow evening.
Passengers of Mumbai-bound Viragram train allegedly surrounded Sharma yesterday when the train halted at Makarpura station and started punching and kicking him before dragging him to the platform. They beat him with wooden sticks and threw chairs at him.
They alleged that Sharma had slapped a youth Arvind Ninama, who was travelling without valid ticket, and later threw him out of the train. Ninama later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
"The passengers have no right to take law into their own hands and they should have handed him (Sharma) over to the police for taking action against him," Srivastava said
Police rounded up a youth from the site and has registered a complaint against the passengers.
