A day ahead of polling in Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency, a mob torched a mini-bus, carrying lunch for Police personnel deployed on security duty in poll-bound North Kashmir township, leaving three policemen and driver injured.
A group of miscreants shouting anti-election and pro-freedom slogans set ablaze the private mini-bus near Cement Bridge in old town Baramulla, 55 kms from here, this afternoon, a police spokesman said.
He said the vehicle was carrying lunch for the personnel of 13th battalion Indian Reserve Police and was en-route to ITI Baramulla from Binner village.
The vehicle suffered extensive damage but the driver and three constables escaped with minor injuries, the spokesman said.
The mob initially pelted stones at the mini-bus but when the driver and the three cops alighted, they set it ablaze, the sources said.
A Police party immediately rushed to the scene and fired teargas shells to chase away the protestors; the sources said adding reinforcements have also been rushed to maintain law and order.
Yesterday, groups of youths attacked a PDP cavalcade at the same spot, injuring 15 persons besides damaging seven vehicles.
