The irate mob on Sunday torched a truck smuggling bovines at Gagwal nearly 50 km from here.

As per reports locals, protesting against erratic water supply for the last four days, on Sunday morning blocked the national highway at Londi on the Samba-Kathua border.

Meanwhile, when officers of the public health engineering department were pacifying the protestors, a truck, JK02AL-1611, smuggling bovines from Kathua, was seized, and after evicting the bovines, protesters torched it.

The police and the fire brigade rushed to the spot soon after getting the information. SSP Samba Anil Magotra said, "We have detained four people for smuggling bovines. After the incident, police have also seized another truck that was smuggling bovines. We have sized their mobile phones and are verifying their call details. In total, we have rescued 15 animals. We have intensified a campaign against bovine smuggling. In past couple of months the Samba police have registered 35 FIRs of bovine smuggling".
