The government has decided to impose a one time spectrum fee on mobile service providers. They will have to pay a higher annual share of revenue towards spectrum fee. This was informed by A Raja, communications an IT minister, at a press conference on Friday.

As first reported by Hindustan Times on October 20, increase in spectrum fee will be one percentage basis point for additional spectrum below 8 MHz and two percentage basis points for spectrum beyond 8 MHz. This is expected to fetch the governmental additional revenue of Rs 3,000 crore. Though the quantum of fee has to be finalised by the Telecom Commission, it will be such that the central exchequer will be richer by Rs 4,000 crore per annum. He also said that there will be no windfall tax on stake sale in Swan and Unitech.
