A moderate intensity earthquake rocked India's northeast on Thursday triggering panic among residents in the region, officials said.
An official of the Regional Seismological Centre in Shillong said the 4.2 magnitude tremor jolted the region at 4.05 pm with its epicenter plotted around northern Assam's Darrang district.
"The earthquake was felt across the whole of the northeast," the official said.
There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage caused by the earthquake.
People in Assam's main city of Guwahati and other parts of the region came out of their homes fearing aftershocks.
