Accusing the Gujarat government of being "anti-Dalit and anti-backward", the state Congress today threatened to launch a state-wide agitation soon.

"UPA government at the Centre is doing so much for the welfare of the Dalits and backward classes, but the BJP government in the state is insulting and making a mockery of them," Gujarat PCC chief Siddharth Patel told reporters in Ahmedabad.

"The mentality of the Modi government is evident from what the Chief Minister has written in his book 'Karmyog' where he has referred to manual scavengers in an insulting manner," Patel alleged. "This is like making mockery of the community and we, the Congress party, would oppose it...," he added.

Leader of the Opposition in state Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil said while the Chief Minister was misleading the people with his Golden Jubilee celebrations, Dalits in 27 villages of the state were facing social boycott by upper caste people. "The Chief Minister can not protect the rights of poor Dalits, this shows his anti-Dalit attitude," he said.
