The 102nd session of the Indian Science Congress at Mumbai University will commence from Saturday after its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The five day event will see the participation of Nobel laureates, academics and scientists from across the globe.
Mumbai is hosting the event after 45 years. Emphasis will be placed on the city’s contribution to science as it does house several renowned institutions such as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Indian Institute of Technology, Tata Memorial Centre etc.
The theme of the event is ‘Science and Technology for Human Development’ and will bring together eminent scientists and research scholars to popularise science and foster scientific temperament.
More than 12,000 delegates from all over the country are expected to participate.
Union minister of science and technology, earth sciences Harshvardhan, Union human resource development minister Smriti Irani, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and governor of Maharashtra Vidyasagar Rao are expected to attend the event.
