Kishore Chauhan (49), the small-time businessman from Mira Road who is accused of raping his two daughters, has told the police that he would commit suicide when he is released from his sentence.
According to officers at the Mira Road police station, which is investigating the case, Chauhan has confessed to the crime and told them that he would commit suicide once he is out. “I have nothing left in my life. My reputation, and that of my family, has been ruined and I will commit suicide as soon as I get released from the case,” Chauhan is believed to have said to officers.
Maithli Jha, sub-divisional police officer from Mira Road division, confirmed that Chauhan had indeed told this to his interrogators. “Chauhan has threatened to end his life. However, these are nothing more than emotional tricks to draw sympathy,” Jha told HT, adding, “those tricks are not going to belittle the gravity of the crime he has committed.”
The police are not taking Chauhan seriously. “Had he realised his sin at any stage in the last nine years, he would have discontinued it then and there”, added an officer.
Police said that Chauhan used to have fights with wife Anjana for the past few years over his incest acts and she even threatened to commit suicide if he did not stop. “She feared that since the elder daughter was growing up she would discuss things with friends and relatives,” Jha said.
Jha informed that lately the elder daughter had refused to accompany her father to numerologist Hasmukh Rathod. “It was then he set his eyes on the younger daughter,” Jha added. Anjana had also stopped visiting Hasmukh since the past three years.
