Chhattisgarh assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes with the Opposition Congress demanding government action on charges of right-wing outfit members indulging in moral policing and misbehaving with some girls celebrating Friendship Day.

Hundreds of activists of Bajarang Dal and Dharmasena were seen slapping and kicking the girls in public places, even blackening the faces of some of them yesterday.

Congress members raised the issue during question hour and alleged that the government was protecting the guilty.

Speaker Dharam Lal Kaushik appealed for calm but to no avail and Congress members continued to shout slogans which prompted him to adjourn the proceedings for ten minutes.

On resumption of proceedings of the House, Home Minister Nanki Ram Kamwar said five persons were arrested in connection with Sunday's incidents while ten policemen have been suspended for alleged lapse in duty.

However, Congress members were not satisfied with the reply. They charged the government was not serious about safety of women and staged a walk out.
