In Gurgaon, if you open a grocery shop, you will have to shut the shop at 8pm. But if you have a pub or a bar for that matter, you can have the luxury of keeping it open till midnight.

According to an estimate, the city has more watering holes than health facilities. Residents are livid over this.

The Haryana Excise and Taxation Department though has not increased the number of vends in the newly announced excise policy, it has provisioned for a new licence (L10E) that allows restaurant owners to set up beer bars at attractively low yearly fee of Rs 4 lakh as against Rs 6 lakh for regular bars.

According to Aman Singh, a resident of DLF City (G Block), liquor vends abound in Gurgaon and one can find them everywhere. "It's a nuisance," she said.
