AT LEAST six more hotels of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) in MP are in line for achieving heritage and star status in the very near future, if the corporation’s efforts towards upgrading them bear fruit. Three other hotels – Palash Residency, Bhopal; Tansen Residency, Gwalior; and Kalchuri Residency, Jabalpur – have already been approved for grant of Three-Star status.
Of the properties, those on the brink of earning three-star status include Tourist Place, Shivpuri; Betwa Cottages, Orchha; and Kshipra Residency, Ujjain. Besides, the three hotels being lined up for a claim on Heritage category are the Sheeshmahal Hotel, Orchha, and two properties in Pachmarhi – The Glenview and The Rock and Manor.
“These six hotels are most likely to get approved for three-star and Heritage status respectively in the next three months,” MPSTDC M D Ashwani Lohani expressed hope. He added the MPSTDC had made the requisite upgrades and renovations in all six properties. “We have already applied for grant of star and Heritage status respectively for the six hotels and their inspection would be conducted soon,”’ Lohani told the Hindustan Times on Wednesday.
A committee headed by Union Tourism Ministry Regional Director for Western and Central Region, S P Singh had inspected the three hotels (Palash, Tansen and Kalchuri) recently and deemed them fit for grant of three-star status. The provisional certificate for grant of the star status to the Tansen Residency reached MPSTDC on Wednesday while similar certifications for Palash Residency and Kalchuri Residency had reached here on November 27.
The inspection committee had found all three properties satisfactory in terms of the prescribed norms for classification under the three-star category and they were endorsed to the Union Ministry of Tourism. The committee has also recommended grant of all permissible incentives from the Government to the three hotels.
