More than 1600 FIRs of missing persons filed in Uttarakhand

The calamities that hit Uttarakhand on 16 and 17 June have led to heavy loss of life and property and there is still no clue to the whereabouts of hundreds who have been missing since the deluge.

The relatives of these pilgrims have now started filing missing reports at the police stations so as to start the paperwork for the recovery and identification of bodies.

Uttarakhand Police have conducted videography of 2300 pilgrims that have been rescued from various parts in the state and their video is being shown on projectors to the relatives that are reaching in search of their near ones.

Apart from this, the names are being tallied from the list of 4000 persons that have been rescued recently.

After they are unable to spot their relatives in these videos or contact them by any means, the relatives are going to various police stations or special counters to lodge the FIR reports.

As per officials around 1000 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged till Wednesday at the police stations in Rishikesh that is the staring point of the Chardham yatra.

More than 500 FIRs have been registered in Doon and 100 in Haridwar. The number is expected to go up as the relatives come pouring in from various parts of the country in search of their relatives.
