With three multiplexes in the vicinity, Melange is all about location, location, location! Andheri’s newest joint aims to take the standard coffee-and-snack experience a notch higher, and in that, it succeeds impressively.
Divided into an outdoor and an indoor (air-conditioned) area, the place looks like it can accommodate 50 people on a busy day. The ambience is cosy and feels perfect for breakfast or a mid-day snack. We reckon it would make a perfect spot during the monsoons.
Unlike chain cafeterias with pre-packed sandwiches and burgers, Melange serves an array of freshly-made snacks. The café boasts American, Australian, European and Italian delights and has different menus for breakfast, tapas, mains and beverages.
We particularly liked the Lebanese-style Melange Dip Platter (Rs 125) served with bread that’s baked in-house and three different kind of dips. The Chili Tofu Fritters (Rs 225) also turned out to be delightfully crispy without being oily.
Our Panini Mediterranean Touch (Rs 195) was served with a sweet and tangy dressing that was a feast for the taste buds. However, the Penne Parmesan Pasta (Rs 285) turned out to be a bit disappointing — it was slightly undercooked and not on par with Italian fare available elsewhere in the city. However the Paneer Tikka Pie (Rs 195) made up for the pasta.
For us, what set the food apart was the presentation. Owner Hardik Parekh, who has recently returned from Australia after a stint at Starbucks and running his own café there, probably has something to do with it. Hardik is also a coffee aficionado, and the Iced Vanilla Latte (Rs 85) here was hard to fault. The Mango Peach Shake (Rs 80) — a nice and thick concoction of fruit and ice cream — is perfect for summer.
