Kerala businessman Muhammed Nisham, who was arrested two days ago for ramming his Hummer into a security guard, has landed in further trouble after police on Saturday arrested a Malyalam film star and four female fashion models from a flat owned by him for possessing drugs.
The police raided the flat in Kadavanthara area of Kochi early on Saturday after a tip off and recovered 10 grams of cocaine, believed to be left behind after use.
"We have arrested all five and seized contraband worth Rs. 10 lakh in international market," said Kochi Police commissioner Tom Jose.
While the police came to know about the ownership of the flat only after questioning the detained, actor Shine Tom Chacko reportedly told them he obtained the drug from his source in Goa.
The police suspect Nisham is involved in the flourishing drug trade in Kochi and surrounding areas.
The arrests come in the wake of reports of drug abuse during late night parties and information about rampant use of drugs by a section of people in the Kerala film industry.
Nisham, who hit the headlines in 2013 for letting his 9-year-old son drive a Ferrari, was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly beat up the guard as a punishment for delay in opening the gate of his apartment complex in Thrissur. When the guard tried to run, in a fit of rage Nisham rammed his Hummer into him and pinned him against a wall, then got out of the car and beat him repeatedly.
The guard had to be admitted in a hospital with serious injuries and is fighting for his life.
Chief minister Oommen Chandy visited the injured security guard, who is still on ventilator, and promised the government would bear all his medical expenses.
