A mother-daughter duo was caught stealing a gold chain from a jewellery shop in Ulhasnagar.

The police arrested Seema Jadhav (50) and Shanta Jadhav (35) from Kasara on Monday.

“On Thursday, two middle-aged women came to my shop when my elder brother was there. They wanted to look at gold chains,” said Alakh Karamkar, owner of Priya Art Jewellers. “While looking at the chains, they pocketed a 20-gm chain, costing Rs 36,000 and left the shop.”

While closing the shop, Karamkar’s brother checked the stock and found one gold chain missing.

They then checked the CCTV recording, where they saw the two women stealing the chain. They immediately informed the police and handed over the CCTV recording.

Alakh Karamkar added, “I was lucky, because I installed the CCTV only a week ago. Otherwise, it would be impossible to catch these thieves.”

Police Sub Inspector Suresh Mohite, said: “Our team arrested the women from Kasara.”
