The editorial A borderline solution (July17), rightly said that the idea of the LoC becoming a ‘soft border’ goes back to the Simla agreement. Free flow of ideas, goods, services and people will bring peace and prosperity to Kashmir. The sooner India, Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir can reach this goal, the better it will be. But so far, we have merely been building castles in the air.
As long as security forces are present in the Valley, the ‘paradise’ will remain a fortress. In this context, making the LoC irrelevant or even converting it into a line of peace will not help. this may sound unpatriotic but it is the truth.
