A seven-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered by her cousin at a town in the neighbouring Mandsaur district.
The 18-year-old culprit, the son of the victim's paternal uncle, was subsequently arrested by the police at Malhargarh town, about 25km from here, in Mandsaur, on Tuesday.
During interrogation, Honey told the police that he committed the offence in an inebriated condition and then threw the victim's body in a water tank after throttling her to death on Monday.
The victim had come from Mandsaur to Malhargarh to spend time with her grandparents when the crime took place.
After the incident, angry residents gathered at the local police station and demanded that the accused be handed over to them.
The post-mortem of the deceased established rape, police said, adding that that the accused would be booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Sangrur: A 14-year-old girl was abducted and gangraped by three men in Mandi Ahmedgarh town of Sangrur district on Monday. The men have been arrested.
The girl was on way to the anganwari, when she was kidnapped, said a police officer. The men — Abhi Sharma, Surjit Sharma and Malkeet Singh —took her to a house and sexually assaulted her.
