MP enter semifinals

THE MP team entered the semifinals in the coxless pair event of the 27th Open and 11th Sprint National Rowing Championship that began at Water Sports Centre, Upper Lake, on Wednesday.

In the first open national rowing championship being organised in Bhopal, Pawan Singh Parihar and Satendra Singh of MP demonstrated good skills while entering the semifinals.

In the women’s events, Orissa entered the final of the coxless pair category. The women of Maharashtra entered the semifinals of the single scull event.

Earlier, chief guest of the opening ceremony, DGP A R Pawar declared the meet open. In his address he said that Bhopal has emerged as an important centre for the water sports activities. State Election Commissioner A V Singh presided over the function.

On the occasion, Principal Secretary Sports Ranjana Chaudhary, MP Rowing Association president Nitish Bharadwaj, Director Sports Sanjay Chaudhary, State Rowing Association secretary Vinod Gogia, Mahavir Bhatnagar, Robin Dutta, joint director sports Dr Vinod Pradhan and others were present.
