MP juniors excel in national fencing

THE JUNIOR fencing team of the State won laurels for the City by winning medals in the junior national fencing championship organised at Nasik.

State team won five medals, including one gold and four silvers. Amardeep stood first in the individual event. In the final, he defeated a fencer of Manipur.

Other medal winners include Himalaya Vishwakarma, Chandrakant and Shridhar Sharma. Himalaya and Amardeep have been selected for the world championship on the basis of their performance in the national meet.

Besides seven boys and a girl has been selected for the national school fencing competition. The selected players include Sridhar, Atul, Kapil, Tarun, Durga, Gautam and Gauri. All the players are from Tatya Tope Stadium.

In all, 300 players of 22 states participated in the championship. Director Sports Sanjay Chaudhary, joint director Vinod Pradhan, coach Bhupendra Singh congratulated the team.
