Three persons were detained on Monday in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 13-year-old girl in a moving bus, even as the Madhya Pradesh Police said they were yet to find any proof of the crime.

The girl's family, on the other hand, demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident. Undergoing treatment at a hospital, the girl told reporters, "Three persons raped me… I fell unconscious and do not remember what happened after that."

Her family members alleged she was gang-raped in a bus in Singrauli district, 780 km east of state capital Bhopal, late on Sunday night and was thrown off the moving vehicle.

The girl had gone to her aunt's place three days ago and was returning home when she was allegedly assaulted. Passersby found her by the road and took her to the district hospital.

Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, additional superintendent of police (Singrauli), said, "We have not found any evidence that proves rape… (but) a case has been registered and further investigation is on."

The three arrested have been identified as Beerbali Bais, 40, Chhotu Jaiswal, 26, and Ram Bhagat, 40. All of them are residents of Waidhan town, where the incident is said to have taken place. The police have also seized the bus in which the girl was allegedly gang-raped.

Gynaecologist Alkesh Soni, who performed the preliminary medical examinations on the girl, said, "We did not find any sign of physical assault and struggle. The clothes of the girl have been sent to the laboratory and the report is awaited."

Later on Sunday, the minor was shifted to a hospital in neighbouring Rewa district for further examinations.
