MP: Villagers pelt stones on cops in Rajgarh, five injured

Five police personnel, including a town inspector (TI) of Narsinghgarh police station, sustained serious injuries after they were attacked by a group of villagers in Rajgarh district, police said on Sunday.

One of the injured constables is critical and undergoing treatment at a private hospital here in Bhopal.

The incident occurred at Dharmakhedi village on Saturday night when a team of policemen, led by town inspector JP Soni, went there to nab two accused — Bhagchand Yadav and his son Sonu Yadav 1 in connection with a loot incident.

Just as the team entered the house of the accused and caught them, a group of people pelted stones at the personnel attacked them with sharp-edged weapons and iron rods, police said. Meanwhile, the accused, along with the assailants, managed to escape from the spot.

In the attack, the TI, constables Nand Kishore, Pradeep, Keshav and Sita Yadav suffered injuries.

SDOP Rajeev Chaturvedi said: “The assailants attacked suddenly the police team, taking advantage of night.” The policemen were rushed to a government in Narsighgarh from where three seriously injured were referred to Bhopal.

Chaturvedi said constable Nand Kishor, who suffered serious injuries, was admitted at a private hospital under critical condition. However, the condition of rest of the injured is out of danger, he said. Police have registered a case against four persons including Bhagchand Yadav and his son.
