Maintaining that self rule proposal authored by his party was realistic and practical solution to address the Kashmir issue Peoples' Democratic Party on Friday stressed on evolving consensus on the self-rule proposal.
"Our party stresses for urgent need to evolve consensus on self-rule proposal. The proposal was realistic and practical solution to address both external and internal dimensions of vexed Kashmir issue," PDP patron and former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed told reporters while launching the membership drive in Jammu on Friday.
Sayeed said that there was a need to evolve a consensus on this issue both at national and state level to aggressively pursue this agenda aimed at restoring lasting and sustainable peace in this region.
He also strongly advocated re-negotiating water agreements with central agencies to get justice for Jammu and Kashmir.
Sayeed said that during his recent meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh he has taken up the issue of discriminatory water agreements and demanded handing over of some hydro electric projects as recommended by C Rangrajan committee, which was constituted to recommend suggestions for the economic empowerment of the state.
The PDP patron also stressed on the need of resumption of Indo-Pak dialogue at highest level to take the peace process pioneered by his party to its logical end.
"The Centre should come out with a positive attitude to initiate dialogue process with Pakistan and separatist groups of Kashmir," he suggested.
