Describing Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and Gujarat chief minister Narender Modi as two faces of the same coin, National Conference (NC) leader and member of parliament Sharief-ud-Din Shariq on Tuesday claimed that unmarked graves in Kashmir have those people inside them who went missing during governor Jagmohan's rule and Mufti's tenure as union home minister in the early nineties.

"When NC president Farooq Abdullah's opposed appointment of Jagmohan's as governor of the state in early nineties for being communal, it was the then home minister Mufti who imposed him on Kashmiris to unleash a reign of terror. The day Jagmohan took over as the governor, people were killed at Nowhatta chowk and it was followed by firing on the funeral of Mirwaiz (Muhammad Farooq) killing dozens," alleged Shariq in a hurried organised press conference in Srinagar at NC headquarters.

The MP said the massacre of Handwara and Bijbehara, the home town of Mufti, took place during Mufti's tenure as home minister. "The NC has nothing to hide that is why chief minister Omar Abdullah is demanding a truth commission," he said.

Shariq claimed the PDP is a communal party with patronage of several communal parties in Delhi. "The ideology of parties like the RSS are similar to the PDP as the latter is the creation of communal forces in Delhi. The fact was even accepted even by Mufti when he said the RSS has allowed him to bash Pakistan," said Shariq adding, "the PDP only knows politics of conspiracy and have been able to befool people with it's false masks of Indo-Pak bonhomie etc".

Shariq said Mufti also stalled attempt to arrest L.K Advani when he launched Rath Yatra for a temple in 90s. "Mufti is also responsible for the killing of Muslims in the aftermath of Babri Masjid demolition," alleged Shariq. It was under the leadership of the then Prime Mime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee that PDP was propped up in Jammu & Kashmir as a front of the BJP, he added.

Reacting to Mehbooba Mufti’s alleged praise to Narender Modi in her NIC speech, Shariq said the PDP leader has only exposed the real face of her party’s political ideology. "Mehbooba’s backtracking should not surprise anybody. The father and the daughter duo have been changing colours like chameleon and making statements and withdrawing them too often to suit their own personal political interests," he said.

Shariq said it is sad that rather than apologizing for having praised a communal Modi, she is denying what she said in the NIC meeting in the presence of more than 140 members. "If she has the moral courage of conviction she should confront Sushma Sawraj and drag her to the court. But she cannot do so because a lie has no feet and her speech is a matter of record of the NIC meeting, he said.

The MP alleged the PDP was created by the BJP to erode the rich secular traditions established by the National Conference for the last seven decades. "the politics of compromise has been the motto of the PDP from its very inception. It was Mufti who was part of the design to erode state's institutions like Sadr-e-riyasat, accounts commission etc," he alleged.
