Mufti's actions weakened democracy: Rana

Provincial president of National Conference Devinder Singh Rana has said that People's Democratic Party patron and former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had always worked to weaken the democratic set up. Rana, who was addressing a rally at Loran in Poonch, said that with just 21 MLAs, Mufti managed to get the chief ministerial berth in 2002, while the NC with much more seats preferred to sit in the opposition.

On Mufti's presumption that elections in the state can be rigged, Rana said such statements were nothing less than accepting defeat before the battle actually starts.

"Mufti has seen the writing on wall and the frustration of PDP leaders can be seen in public meetings," Rana said.

He said history stands testimony to the fact that National Conference never compromised its principles for the sake of power.
