To overcome scarcity of drinking water in Anantnag town and adjoining areas, chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Tuesday inaugurated the 4.50 MGD Bamzoo water supply scheme, which has been funded under the urban infrastructure development scheme for small and medium towns (UIDSSMT).
According to a government spokesman, with the commissioning of the scheme, water supply in Anantnag town and adjoining areas will now be augmented and around 1.12 lakh people will have access to safe drinking water.
The chief minister had last week commissioned the 10 MGD Sukhnag Water Supply Scheme in Budgam, which has been constructed at a cost of `121 crore.
Minister for horticulture, hajj and auqaf, AR Veeri, and minister for public health engineering (PHE) and irrigation and flood control, Sukhnandan Kumar, accompanied the chief minister.
Immediately after inaugurating the scheme, Mufti Sayeed inspected the filtration plant and main reservoir, where chief engineer PHE briefed him about the main features of the scheme and the areas to be fed in the region.
