In these days of keeping a film in the news from Day One, director Mani Shankar hosted a media meet following the completion party of Mukhbiir on Thursday evening.
The film revolves around an informer, played by Sameer Dattani. Being the captain of the ship, Shankar fielded queries from the media, taking an occasional breather when a few questions were directed towards Rahul Dev, Sushant Singh, Dattani, Kelly Dorji and Raima Sen, giving the whole thing a very classroom session feel.
“Mukhbiir is not just about the informer, but also about the people who handle him, the intelligence, the technology used and other aspects of his life and profession,” said Shankar, while the huge screen showed stills from the film. Om Puri, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Dev and Singh play pivotal parts, which dictate the course of the informer’s life.
Asked about her role in a male-dominated subject, Raima said, “Though it’s not a very big role, it’s important nevertheless. I’m playing Sameer’s love interest, who is aware of what he is and why she still stands by him despite that.”
It was left to the other actors to lighten up the serious Q&A session. “After making me a good looking, good character in 16 December, Mani wanted me to play a good looking bad guy here,” said Singh while Dev joked, “Mani sir shot most of my scenes in silhouette. Maybe he didn’t like my looks and kept me in the dark.” While Puri and Shetty were conspicuous by their absence, Shroff sauntered in at midnight lifting up the fading spirits of the remaining media people.
