THE GUNNING down of dreaded gangster Kripashanker Chaudhary by the STF sleuths in Mumbai yesterday is being viewed as yet another master stroke of jailed don Mukhtar Ansari.
Ansari, the main conspirator behind the sensational shootout in Ghazipur killing BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and seven others, is, according to sources, making all efforts to eliminate all the key players in the Rai murder case.
Sources in the police reveal that Munna Bajrangi too is likely to land in the STF dragnet, sooner than later. And that will be just too perfect for the jailed don’s scheme of things.
Whatever is happening, according to sources, is not without reasons. Ansari was lodged in jail when the shootout took place; therefore, he has been named in the case as a conspirator only. Till one of the shooters confesses his role and reveals about the conspiracy and the conspirator behind the murder, Ansari’s role could not be established in the chargesheet.
This was precisely the reason why the don was so unconcerned about the development in the case, untill the High Court transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Since the don had already faced a CBI interrogation in Nandlal Rungta kidnapping cum murder case, he has decided to get rid of the vital evidences which could establish his key role behind the shootout, say sources.
Coming in handy are his connections in the corridors of power, on whose instance the ‘big names’ among the shooters in the high-profile case are being bumped off in police encounters.
Ansari is aware about CBI’s style of functioning and also knows that the sleuths would first try to lay hand on those who had played a key role in the sensational shootout.
Besides Ansari, his brother MP Afzal Ansari and two of his brothers-in-law, other big names in the case are Munna Bajrangi, Sanjiv Maheshwari alias Jeeva, Munna’s close friend Kripashanker Chaudhary and Firdaus. The government had declared rewards of Rs 50,000 each on Munna and Firdaus.
A source in UP Police revealed that the don first targeted Firdaus. He started providing information about the movement of the gangster and the mobile numbers he was using. Soon the special task force (STF) sleuths gunned down Firdaus in Mumbai on April 19.
While Ansari went ahead collecting information about the movement of Munna and Chaudhary, Sanjiv Maheshwari came to know about the double-crossing by the jailed don. To scuttle the don’s plot and save his life, Maheshwari contacted his Delhi-based contacts, who later stage-managed the gangster’s arrest by the Delhi police in May.
Ansari then turned the heat on Munna and Chaudhary. Finally, he succeeded to get Chaudhary and Munna tra-pped in STF net in Mumbai. But, before the STF team could rush to the hideout Mun-na slipped away. Chaudhary was simply not lucky.
