The founder of United Democratic Front (UDF) Delhi Jama Masjid Imam Maulana Ahmad Bukhari on Sunday blasted Mulayam Singh Yadav government for hobnobbing with RSS-BJP in the state. Bukhari said atrocities on Muslims had increased during the three-year regime of Samajwadi Party.

Talking to mediamen in Lucknow on Sunday Bukhari, who had expressed willingness to have an electoral alliance with the SP or BSP, targeted the Yadav government for the rising insecurity to the minority community. He said the state government, in league with the RSS-VHP, had been harassing the community. Bukhari said while Muslim youth were being killed in fake encounters, girls studying in Madrassas were not safe. He said SP-BJP nexus had pushed the entire eastern UP into communal conflagration. Calling upon the community to be united during the assembly election, Bukhari said they should demand their proper representation in the government.

Bukhari said the state government did not issue a fresh notification in the Babri Masjid demolition case because of BJP pressure. He said Babri Masjid demolition accused were roaming freely.

Announcing that UP UDF had completed the candidate selection process for 200 seats Bukhari said the remaining work would be completed at the party meeting on February 28. Bukhari said the Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had been desperately trying to emotionally exploit the community to come back to power. However his gameplan would not succeed, Bukhari said and added that UDF would give a tough fight to the SP. He also expressed the possibility of an alliance with some parties.

Bukhari also attacked the Congress for "fake encounters" in Kashmir. He said Muslims had also been targeted after terrorists attacks on Sankat Mochan in Varanasi and Ayodhya. Bukhari also assailed the Urban Development Minister Mohd Azam Khan for misleading the community. Commenting that Khan was not "representative of Muslims" Bukhari said he (Khan) was equally responsible for atrocities on the community in the state. The UDF president Yusuf Qureshi announced cancellation of dharna on February 12.

Meanwhile People's Democratic Front (PDF) President Dr Nihaluddin said that Muslim parties unity should be on some ideology. He said Muslim parties should maintain equal distance from SP, Congress, BSP and BJP. He also condemned the rape case in Allahabad Madrassa and the rising communal forces in eastern UP.
