The Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav was on Tuesday courted arrest along with thousands of his supporters in Lucknow.
The police also resorted to repeated lathicharge around the SP headquarters on Vikramaditya Marg and Hazratganj area where the workers had laid siege. The party had launched one day jail bharo stir against “anti-people” policies of BSP government.
While the police officers were trying to hold the SP leaders party office, Yadav along with few supporters reached Hazratganj square and sat on dharna. Thereafter hundreds of workers rushed to the spot.
As the police and PAC personnel jostled with workers, there was brick-batting also. Senior civil and police officers also rushed to Hazratganj to control the situation.
Addressing gathering at Hazratganj Yadav said law and order situation had crumbled in the state. He said criminals were ruling the roost and the officers were involved in massive corruption. He said the BSP government had also failed completely in controlling price of essential commodities. Yadav said that the state government could not escape from the responsibility by simply blaming the Congress-led UPA government on price rise. Both are equally responsible, he said.
While in Kanpur Yadav’s son and state unit chief Akhliesh Yadav led massive demonstration, leader of opposition Shivpal singh yadav and senior leader Janeshwar Mishra led stir in Barielly and Allahabad respectively. There were reports of clashes between the police and SP workers from various places.
