A police inspector has been caught for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for releasing a seized motorcycle, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Saturday.
SG Khandare, attached to Hill Line Police Station under Ulhasnagar division of Thane, was arrested last night and booked under Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to inspector UA Vaidya of ACB Thane unit, Hill Line Police had seized the motorbike of a man against whom an offence of extortion had been registered with them.
The man, Ravi Arjun Pawar, approached the Ulhasnagar Court, which ordered the police to return the bike. When Pawar approached the police station, Khandare demanded Rs 5,000 for handing over the two-wheeler, Vaidya said.
Pawar lodged a complaint with the ACB, whose officials laid a trap at the police station and caught Khandare accepting the bribe money yesterday afternoon, he said.
