Mumbai dance bars: Final verdict today

Earlier in April 2005, the Maharashtra government had said that all dance bars, except in Mumbai, would be banned.
After four months of haggling, the Bombay High Court will on Wednesday decide the fate of the 75,000 bar dancers.
The court had reserved its final judgement in the case in January.

Earlier in April 2005, the Maharashtra government had said that all dance bars, except in Mumbai, would be banned.
The shutdown was later extended to the state's capital on August 15, 2005.
Over 2,000 dance bars operate in Maharashtra. Apart from the dancers, the bars employ thousands of others, as waiters and for other jobs.
The bars are seen by many as fronts for prostitution rackets.
