Mumbai police hand over crucial papers to Delhi cops

Barely two months after they fought over sharing evidence in the T20 league betting/spot-fixing scandal into which they were conducting parallel probes, the Mumbai police crime branch last week handed over crucial case papers on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel to the Delhi police special cell in order to bolster evidence in the latter’s case on spot-fixing.

Highly placed sources in the crime branch told HT on Wednesday that around a week ago, a request was made by Delhi police to provide them with case papers related to Dawood and Shakeel having figured in organised crime cases. This was ostensibly to bolster evidence in their case in which MCOCA, which is essentially used in cases where the underworld is involved, has been invoked.

“We have given them (Special Cell) a list of at least half a dozen MCOCA cases in which Dawood and Shakeel had figured as accused and some papers (copies of FIRs and charge sheets),” a senior crime branch official told HT, requesting anonymity.
