The feud in senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde’s family has now reached the doorsteps of BJP President Nitin Gadkari.
This could be an embarrassment for Munde, who had twice this year rebelled against Gadkari, saying he was being sidelined in the party.
Munde’s nephew Dhananjay has fielded a candidate opposite Munde’s nominee for the election to the president of municipal council of Parli, their hometown. The top brass of the state BJP will meet on Thursday in Nagpur and hold discussions with Gadkari to stem the growing rift between Munde and his nephew.
Top leaders of the state BJP — Sudhir Mungattiwar, Eknath Khadse and Vinod Tawde — held discussions with Gadkari in Nagpur to find a solution to the Munde family feud.
The BJP top brass are wary of losing the Parli civic body, and are also aware that Dhananjay is in touch with NCP leader and deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar. “The NCP has expansion plans in central Maharashrta and they may poach Dhananjay. Though Munde is a senior leader, we cannot afford to ignore this aspect. Besides, if Dhananjay walks away with his set of corporators, the NCP would support him to snatch power from our hands,” said a senior BJP functionary.
State BJP President Mungattiwar said that the party would meet again on Friday to put a lid on the feud between the two. He claimed that with the Parliament Session getting a break, the leaders would now sit to find a solution to the issues that have cropped up in Parliament.
