It was no ordinary wedding but an extravagant event managed by Wizcraft International.

The wedding of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Gopinath Munde’s daughter, Dr Pritam, with engineer Gaurav Khade of Nashik was literally a traffic-stopping affair. Peak hour traffic around the busy Raja Bahaddur Mill road collapsed for more than three hours on Friday because of heavy VIP movement at the venue — Shivaji Maratha Preparatory Military School.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and senior BJP leaders L K Advani, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu, Anant Kumar attended the wedding. Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray were also present.

Son of a cane-cutter, Munde — now a leading sugar baron — had ensured the wedding was no less than a royal Maratha wedding it was intended to resemble. Sources revealed that Munde has spent at least Rs 5 crore on the wedding.

The food was simple Maharashtrian and Punjabi fare served at 60 stalls.

Disciples of shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan played at the reception.
