FORMER DEPUTY chairman of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptulla on Tuesday described the reported remarks of Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf on former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee as ‘regrettable.’

Though she has not read the book so far, she told reporters here, “In fact it was Atalji, who took steps to cement the relationship between the two countries and initiated the confidence building measures (CBM) despite reservation from different quarters.”

Heptulla is here to attend Garba festival being organized by Mahila Sanskritik Utsav Samiti at Capt Roop Singh stadium. Heptulla said the cross border terrorism should be dealt with firmly and the Pakistan government should act instead of lip service.

Referring to the UPA government policies towards the minorities, she said, “Their (Congress) speeches are bundles of lies as socio-economic condition of Muslims has remained unchanged.” A large percentage of Muslim is still uneducated, economically weak and backward, she said.

She said 33 per cent reservation for women would be of little help.
