Paul M. George, 32, son of Muthoot Group chairman George Muthoot, was hacked to death by a group of unidentified assailants near Alapuzha, 150 kilometres north of Thiruvananthapuram, in the early hours of Saturday.

Paul, a director in the Muthoot Group, which has a large presence in the personal finance sector, was waylaid and attacked shortly after midnight when he was returning from a resort owned by him.

According to the police, the assailants chased and intercepted Paul’s vehicle at a secluded spot.

A friend travelling with him was also injured in the attack. The assailants fled in the car Muthoot was traveling in.

The police suspect that business rivalry was the motive behind the murder.

Inspector General of Police Winson M. Paul visited the spot where the murder took place.

Paul, a bachelor, was in charge of the group’s business in Delhi.
