A clash between Dalits and Jats on Friday in Jat Mujhera village of Muzaffarnagar left three people injured.

Both the groups resorted to stone pelting and firing following which a heavy police force was deployed to the area to control the situation.

Senior police and district officials rushed to the village to bring the situation under control.

According to reports on Thursday night, Raj Singh of the Dalit community had an altercation with three people — Jasbeer, Sitara and Kushal — at the Ramlila ground of the Jat Mujhera village. A peace meeting was called in the village on Friday morning but both parties ended up getting into an argument again.

The matter escalated when men from both sides started pelting stones at each other and firing in which Pradeep, 28, Ravish, 30, and Naveen, 17, received bullet injuries.

Some Dalits alleged that shots were fired at them in the presence of the police, who did nothing to help them. Later, several Dalit women blocked the Shukrataal- Muzaffarnagar Road, demanding action against the assailants.

The administration has deployed heavy police and PAC force in the village. The situation remained tense till reports last came in but no FIR from either side had been filed regarding the incident. Hospital sources said two of the three injured had been referred to a Meerut hospital for further treatment.
