A SECTION of students of the local MVM College on Monday decided to proceed on indefinite strike protesting lack of basic facilities and indiscipline in the college and the unavailability of books in the library.

However, college principal O P Jain said that there was no strike in the college and the situation was normal. He said a section of students had raised some issues with him, but were satisfied after discussions.

Students raised slogans in the college under the leadership of the president of the college union Deepak Malviya on Monday afternoon. Malviya urged students to boycott classes until their demands were met.

The main demands are regarding drinking water, canteen, unavailability of books in the library, non-issuance of available books and general indiscipline.

The principal said students had been informed during discussions that books worth Rs 1.24 lakhs had been ordered and was being funded through the People’s Participatory Committee, as the State Government had not been given any grant for the purpose.  He added, three water coolers had been installed and would start functioning soon.

Later in the evening a section of students said the strike would continue until the demands were really met.
