Various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) Saturday called on the police authorities and sought expediting the investigation into the mysterious death of a Kishtwar youth near in Jammu.
They expressed concern over the "slow pace and casual approach" adopted by the investigating team to ascertain the facts behind the death of Umar Akhoon, a student from Kishtwar, who was allegedly beaten up and left to die on the roadside at Christian Colony.
They alleged the police has so far not rounded up any of the accused who have absconded. The delay in recording the statement of eyewitnesses, they said, was causing a severe dent to the probe which will have serious repercussions.
The NGOs pointed out that the mysterious death of the youth and possible murder theory has created a sense of resentment among the common people of Kishtwar.
After giving a patient hearing to the NGO members, the deputy inspector of police sought the progress report from the investigation officer. He also directed the police to pick up all the suspects in the case immediately besides seeking the post-mortem report from forensic lab on a priority basis.
