THE THIRD meeting of the regional consultative committee on agriculture and rural development (RECARD) was organised here at NABARD’s regional office on Wednesday.
Chairing the meeting NABARD’s chief general manager Ashok Mathur said the objective of the committee was to suggest strategies to be adopted on agriculture related initiatives and introduction of new projects and schemes.
The committee discussed the potential and opportunities under the agro and food processing in Madhya Pradesh, since the State is a major producer of soyabean and gram, in addition to having vast resources in medicinal and aromatic plants. Suggesting strategies in the meeting, the expert group said awareness needed to be developed among all stakeholders and capacity building for entrepreneurs.
It was also suggested to share information with farmers and growers, setting up of demonstration units having low cost technology for dissemination of knowledge, provision of backward-forward linkage and infrastructure support, providing value-addition at the door-steps of farmers, opportunities for rural network and reduction of intermediaries in the value chain, so as to extend maximum benefit to farmers.
