A close friend of Nadia Torrado's family on Sunday revealed that Nadia had gone to the market and interacted with many people after she consumed poison on May 15.

The statement comes as a fresh revelation in the backdrop of arrest of Nadia's mother Sonia on Saturday, who was charged with abetting suicide of her daughter, culpable homicide and destruction of evidence.

"Nadia was in the market after 9.30 am and returned back home at around 11.50 am. She had interacted with many people including a newspaper vendor," Maria Mascarenhas, a close friend of the Torrado family told reporters in Panaji.

Mascarenhas is nursing Nadia's brother Konrad at Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour after he went into depression following his mother's arrest.

Former Goa tourism minister Fransis Mickey Pacheco and Sonia were arrested by crime branch under charges of abetting Nadia's suicide, culpable homicide and destruction of evidence.

Nadia, who took poison on May 15, had died on May 30 after being treated at various hospitals in Goa, Thane (Mumbai) and Chennai.

Police have revealed that Nadia had consumed poison at 9 am and was shifted to hospital at 3 pm. The investigating agencies had questioned the delay in taking her to the hospital by the family members while her mother, Sonia has stated that it was only at 2 pm that they came to know that Nadia had consumed poison.

Refusing the theory that Nadia was forced to take poison, her family members in their statement have told police that she had enough chance to inform people about it as she had spoken to many people.

Mascarenhas said that Nadia even brought patties from a bakery for breakfast.

Lawyers representing Pacheco had earlier stated that the former minister had rushed to her place in the afternoon when he was informed about Nadia taking the poison.

"She was immediately shifted to Apollo hospital by the family members along with Pacheco without any delay," Amit Palekar, Pacheco's legal counsel, said.
