With Naga issue playing the central theme of campaigning for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls on April 16 in Outer Manipur, most of the candidates contesting the seat are harping on the community's integrity in their election meetings.
Sitting MP Mani Cheranamei (People's Democratic Alliance), who belongs to Zeliangwrong Naga community, has been emphasising in his public meetings in interior hill districts he would work for integration of Nagas in the north east region.
"When a candidate was elected to Parliament, we are under oath to uphold the national integrity and not the state's integrity," he told a public meeting last evening in Churachandpur district.
Cheranamei said integration of Naga-settled areas even at the cost of disintegration of Manipur's boundaries would solve most problems faced by tribals in the region.
"If we have a state (integration of all Naga-settled areas with Nagaland state), we can grow and develop like our neighbouring state particularly Mizoram as we will be able to manage our own affairs and put our policy on the pipeline of development," he said.
