Five people died on the spot while one person was injured when a trailer crashed into a luxury car, coming from opposite direction, near Talegaon on Nagpur-Aurangabad Express Highway, some 150 kms from Nagpur on Monday.

According to reports, the tragedy occurred when the ill-fated car was on its way to Nagpur from Ner in Yavatmal district this morning. The trailer, carrying steel materials, was in its way to Aurangabad from Raipur. The gruesome accident was so horrified that two cranes were used to lift the car from the spot and recover the bodies. The car was totally smashed by the trailer.

All the five passengers died on the spot. They were identified as: Hemendra Kothari (30), Sanjay Bang (31), Manoj Thakre (27), Sushil Chaturmutha (30) and Rahul Kawre (22). One of the passengers, Jitendra Lunkar (32) who sustained serious injuries was admitted to the Yavatmal civil hospital where he was reported to be critical.

The local police suspected that the car may have been speeding and before the driver could notice the trailer, coming from the opposite direction, it was too late.

The driver of the trailer absconded from the spot shortly after the accident.
