Namdhari register second consecutive win

NAMDHARI XI scripted second consecutive win on Monday in the All-India Ahmad Sher Khan hockey tournament being organised at SAI Center Bishenkheri.

After defeating Bhopal XI on Sunday, Namdhari XI thrashed another team of Bhopal. Playing against SAI Day Boarding, the Namdhari team put up a better show on Monday. Namdhari team took only two minutes to open the account. Gurbaksh Singh converted a penalty corner into a goal.

However, Wasim of Bhopal levelled the score in the 31st minute. When the scores were 1-1, Namdhari boys intensified their attacks. Bhopal team could not stand against the regular attacks of the opponents for long. In the 34th minute, Namdhari took 2-1 lead as Balvinder Singh scored the second goal.

It was a bad show by Bhopal team in the second half. Namdhari consolidated their score in the 50th minute when Gurbaksh Singh sounded the board through penalty corner. Scoring his first goal and the team’s fourth goal, Gurmeet made the final score 4-1.

The second match of the day brought smiles on the faces of the hosts Bhopal. SAI XI Bhopal registered a whopping 10-0 win against Vidharbha. Skipper Nadim Baig scored three goals for the winning team.

Earlier, Governor Balram Jakhar inaugurated the tournament. Speaking on the occasion, he extended good wishes to the participating teams. Former Olympian Aslam Sher Khan and others were present on the occasion.
