india Updated: Aug 17, 2006 13:16 IST

The KC Mahindra Education Trust has tied up with the Rajasthan government to sponsor education of 10,000 girls in Udaipur. The Nanhi Kali project aims to educate underprivileged girls studying from Classes I to X.

The cost of sponsoring a girl has been estimated at Rs 1,800 per annum. Fifty per cent of it will be borne by the state government. Keshub Mahindra, chairman of the KC Mahindra Education Trust, said, “The Trust has supported over 15,600 girls so far.

It has given grants worth Rs.13.55 million. This tie-up cements the growing public-private relationship in altruistic projects.” The Trust will maintain profiles of the sponsored girls along with their photographs.

The Trust will also monitor the academic progress of the girls sponsored under the project on a regular basis.
