The Orissa government will extend all assistance to four students of the state to travel to the US at the invitation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), officials said on Thursday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assured the students his government will provide them the necessary assistance when they called on him at the secretariat on Wednesday.

The students -- Ashima Kar, Amitav Mohanty, Soumya Ranjan Pati and Ullas Mishra -- study at the Ispat English Medium School run by Rourkela steel plant.

"Eden", a project developed by the students, won the second prize in the NASA space settlement design contest and earned them an invitation to the US.

The project developed by them visualised the creation of a settlement in space that accommodate about 10,000 people.

It covered various aspects of living in space, including where to get soil, water and air, and how to defy gravity, control the temperature and meet power requirements.
