The high court on Wednesday allowed Nashik-based builder Ramrao Tukaram Patil to file a fresh anticipatory bail application in the Nashik session court.
Patil is a complainant in the case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation against Sarabjot Singh, son of National Commission for Scheduled Caste chairman Buta Singh.
Patil had alleged that Sarabjot had demanded bribe of Rs 1 crore to ‘influence’ his father to settle cases registered against him. Patil had approached the court, after the Nashik court rejected his bail application in a Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes Atrocities Act case registered against him in Nashik.
The application was rejected as Patil was not present in Nashik court. Patil’s lawyers argued that he could not reach as the magistrate was recording his statement in Mumbai.
The court has directed the Nashik court to hear the case on August 17.
The court also directed Patil to be present when his application seeking anticipatory bail comes up for hearing. His absence would be treated as grounds to reject the application.
