The 33rd National Games in Guwahati would be held according to schedule despite the current violence in the state, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Mani Shankar Aiyar said in New Delhi on Monday.
"The National Games will be held as scheduled and all security issues will be handled by the agencies concerned," he said. However, he added that his ministry is not among those agencies.
The Games, to be held from February 9-18, had come under a shadow following a series of attacks carried out by separatist guerrillas in the state, which had claimed around 80 lives.
The minister said these attacks would in no way affect the Games.
